Tasmania Part II

While we were in Hastings, we decided to take a tour of the Newdgate Cave.

I was really pushing my camera to the limit here - 3200ISO. Some of them are a bit noisy, but I wanted to make use of the cave lighting rather than flash.

The last photo is the only one that uses the flash, & to me it only works because there is a lot of off camera light in the back. While in focus, the flashy spots aren't the focus - my eye is drawn to the bottom corner every time.

Tasmania Part I

As mentioned previously, The Boy & I went to Tasmania for a few days holiday last week. I've got tonnes of photos to share, but to keep things from being a bit overwhelming, I'll be splitting them up over a few posts.

First up, here's some of the scenery from our drive between Hobart & Hastings.

#85 See a musical on stage at least once a year – Wicked

Umm...WOW!!!

Firstly, I must say I’m so glad that despite wanting to have seen Wicked for over 2 years, I hadn’t ever actually read anything about the story. I love it when you can go in and watch something with an open mind (as much as that is possible knowing it’s a blockbuster) and walk away so completely satisfied.

I was so blown away by the costumes, the stage and performances that I could barely move. I was simply mesmerised.

The Wicked Witch of the West is an absolute star, one of the strongest and most incredible voices I’ve ever heard. Bravo!

If you live in Sydney and haven’t seen it yet, do yourself a favour. I’m like a giddy little school girl today still on such a high :)

There was no photography permitted in the theatre, but I figured it’d be ok to sneak a quick phone pic with the curtain down at the end.

Tasmania

I know most of my recent posts have been very wordy, and I haven’t posted any new pics for a few weeks…but they’re coming I assure you.

Last week, The Boy & I spent 4 days in Tasmania…the little state off the bottom of Australia that very often is the butt of all jokes, gets left off maps & the like.

It was absolutely beautiful. So so so green, and the water was just pristine. I had an amazing time. So nice to get out of town every now and then.

We flew into Hobart, hired a car & kind of cris-crossed our way around for a few days, before flying out of Launceston.

I took tonnes and tonnes of pics, which still need sorting through…and a little artistic processing as I go, so please stay tuned. I’ll probably split it up over a few posts. Hopefully I’ll get them all up by the end of the weekend.

For now, here’s my markup of where we went.

#25 Change a tyre on my own

I’m gradually getting caught up. At least this only happened a bit over a week ago.

The Boy, many moons ago, was a mechanic, which conveniently means he can do all necessary repairs & services for only the cost of the parts. It was time for us both to get our brake pads changed, so he decided to teach me how to do it. Aside from the actual tyre changing part, I didn’t really see why I needed to learn to change the pads…afterall, this isn’t something I’m ever going to have to do stranded on the side of the road by myself…but I played along.

I know the entire process is entirely logical, but I wanted to know where exactly the jack needed to go on my car…I’ve seen some people do some pretty serious damage by placing it in strange places before.

Other than that, I was just kind of after a few little secrets to make the job easier…such as, apparently, you should always loosen the nuts 1 turn before jacking it up…makes it much much easier.

It wasn’t exactly a hugely enlightening moment, as I consider myself pretty good at figuring these sorts of things out, but it was good to do it the first time without actually being stranded…and hey, a complete task is a complete task afterall!
